taquiones.net is a Fediverse instance that uses the ActivityPub protocol. In other words, users at this host can communicate with people that use software like Mastodon, Pleroma, Friendica, etc. all around the world.
This server runs the snac software and there is no automatic sign-up process.

📢 @prav server upgrade test
Hi all, I'm currently running upgrades on a test version of the #Prav server, to prepare for a full upgrade. I'll be upgrading the #Debian version from #Bookworm to #Trixie, which will also upgrade #ejabberd in the process and unblock a new version of our Android #app from being released.
Since it's only on a test server for now normal operations should remain unaffected. I'll report back here when it's done and schedule a time to run the upgrade on the main server.
Published a short blog post about why I use Debian.

@mdione
I linked to that section too, but in a way that is less likely to break in the future.
While they (may) have a valid argument, my (main) problem is that they decide all by themselves, thus without any outside input.
They could've brought this up to the kernel community/maintainers and find a way to address the issue. But they don't.
They just break things for everyone and demand they 'fix' things as they dictate.
Even waiting for #Debian Policy to change was too much.

Please also note that this is also the way recommended by the Linux
kernel documentation:
And later Luca Boccassi explained in more detail why they adopted the change. It seems reasonable not to keep security bugs for compatibility reasons.

Making PipeWire’s PulseAudio server implementation handle filter.want and filter.apply properties will make
echo cancellation working on the Librem 5 phone with #pipewire

We have currently 160 USD bounty on this task https://opencollective.com/dephcom/projects/pipewire-echo
Interested to try and implement this? Or would you like to add to the bounty to encourage someone to fix this sooner?
What hardware is recommended for running an (low-power usage) #Debian based storage box (small preference for not x86)? BananaPi plus USB hard drive? Older Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny boxes (like @jwildeboer)? Other ideas / recommendations?
I spent this weekend at a BBQ in England, with many Debian developers, among other people. It's an annual event and this wasn't my first time. I really enjoyed it, even if I'm not a Debian developer any more, nor wanting to re-join the project. Listening to the quiet murmur of Debian development discussions happening is becalming, nostalgic, and reassuring to me.
I use, like, and trust Debian. I'll stick to it until I have very good reasons to switch.
Welp...

It was a lot of work (fun?) while it lasted!
Maybe not a permanent #Debian saying goodbye to #Guix but at least for now...
Got #Debian Woody installed, but as I'm setting it up I'm finding that the kernel and ALSA drivers are a bit too old for my hardware. I can build a new kernel from upstream source just fine, but ALSA remains a sticking point: the included packages are too old to work, but pretty much everything else I'm going to want to install depends on them. I'll have to debianize and package an upstream source dist myself.
I've never done that before, so it'll be a learning experience!
The upcoming #Trisquel 12 is based on #Ubuntu 24.04, which didn't get a #FreeCAD package as it had fallen out of #Debian Testing at the time. I've fixed this issue for the Trisquel release, pulling in the FreeCAD package from Ubuntu 24.10, unfortunately still the 0.21 version of FreeCAD, but at least it'll be available!
DietPi 9.16 improves SBC support, adds Debian 13 Trixie and Forky testing compatibility, introduces faster updates, and fixes Raspberry Pi issues.

Another (virtual) machine upgraded to #Debian Trixie! 🎉
Took 30 minutes and my website seems to still be there. Need to test the communication relay services.
Just my main server left.
For about a decade I've developed and maintained vmdb2, a program to create a virtual machine image with Debian installed. Basically, it installs Debian in a file that can be used to boot a virtual machine.
[DELETED for space]
Boosts are welcome.
EDIT: There are some users. I'm asking for help: https://toot.liw.fi/@liw/115200771616784105
A client sends me an email:
"Do you remember that internal backup server you set up a few years ago? Could you log in and check if everything’s okay? I’m not seeing any errors, but I’m not sure if it’s actually working properly".
I have a vague memory of it - I’m guessing “a few years ago” is quite a high number.
They send me the credentials and I log in:
08:46:41 up 2957 days, 18:01, 1 user, load average: 7.09, 2.34, 1.50
And, surprisingly, no errors.
Everything is working correctly, backups are present, and the disks show no issues whatsoever.
Debian.
Boot date: 14/04/2017.
Impressive.
The Debian Publicity Team will no longer post on X/Twitter. Since 2010, the Debian Snapshot service functions as a "wayback machine" that allows access to old packages based on dates and version numbers. However, this service has been in need for big maintenance for quite a while. Luckily, thanks to Glasklar Teknik AB and DSA in June 2024 the service has been migrated to new hardware and is now fully up and running again: enjoy https://snapshot.debian.org/ https://micronews.debian.org/2024/1722416374.html #debian
