@nextcloud #Nextcloud 25 is already obsoleted and unsupported. Look, you can see where it was released a long time ago, at https://github.com/nextcloud/server/releases/tag/v25.0.0 .

At this point, it isn't just a good suggestion not to reuse already-obsolete version numbers for new versions of Nextcloud software. This is such an egregiously-stupid idea that your whole community believes you should fire, block, and ban the person who made the decision to do this. They're actively attempting to destroy your product from within.

The only way to truly reclaim control over your data is to switch to free and open-source software (FOSS) and self-hosted solutions.

In many home networks this might be a much better option than something like #NextCloud. Just run it on a #Linux system and go.

I'm currently running a #nextcloud instance in my home server. Now I have all my relevant files, contacts and calendars stored there.

So now I'm thinking about the next step and setting up a private collaborative office suite, but I'm not sure of if I'd prefer to enable #collabora in Nextcloud or to use #cryptpad for it.

Suggestions and personal growth stories are welcome. Also some boosts.

I finally got around to checking out @nextcloud. I can really see the potential here. I'm starting with a stripped down personal instance and will probably re-add modules and so on. I think the next part of my #degoogle #demicrosoft effort will be in creating a robust backup solution for my #Docker stack. From there I might also investigate swarm and so on.

Of course there are still many other things to do but I'm making progress getting off the tech giants as much as I can.

If you're running Nextcloud on top of Apache2 on Debian 12 server and after upgrading to Debian 13 server it refuses to start up again, do the following:

a2dismod php8.2
a2enmod php8.4
systemctl restart apache2

At least that was what I needed to do.

@xk3 Indeed I do! My biggest use case is for my org-mode & org-roam notes. I frequently edit them from multiple devices, so something like #Syncthing or #Nextcloud isn't a great fit for this (due to possibilities of conflicts). git is.

But, when I'm ready to do a "git pull", I may have no Internet - be on a plane, or maybe one of the other machines in the cluster is powered down, etc.

This way, each machine receives diffs whenever it can, and I can effectively "git pull" when convenient.

I have again tried and failed to get my #Nextcloud server to be happy with #caddyserver. It seems others have gotten pretty URLs with a subdomain to work and I got it sort of half-working, in that it's showing a nextcloud page, but with no CSS and an otherwise page not found.

My current ISP blocks port 80, so I have to use dns-01 with apache, which is one of those things that isn't great if I were to abruptly kick the bucket and my wife would eventually lose access to our server.

Here's the thing. I don't even begrudge Nextcloud posting videos to YouTube. The part I have a problem with is that they say they're promoting decentralization, yet after all these years they refuse to post to any alternative.

Similarly, they provide no option to use @unifiedpush , but *only* allow Googles Firebase for notifications.

Using Google trackers on the website is pretty ridiculous though when such high quality alternatives exist, such as @Matomo .

They also never bother to explain WHY they continue to ignore all of these things that so obviously go against the values they supposedly stand for, Just crickets to any questions and more promotional videos / blog posts.

It appears to be like a "kiss of death" for @nextcloud to promote or advertise a specific app. Before I learned this, I was excited when the "Social" app was advertised because that's a good function to add to a private community server like Nextcloud, but now it's dead and abandoned.

Now that "Maps" has been advertised, we see it, too, has fallen behind in development and has no stable version for the current version of #Nextcloud.

Nextcloud developers kill off apps with platform instability.

ok, so my work to get closer to being more 'decentralised' as far as tech goes, gets closer to the end.

* self hosting my family mail including calendaring and contacts
* self hosting files and pictures
* self hosting DNS
* self hosting VPN.

All using opersource of course.

Biggest challenge was setting up the local and offsite backups and making sure that it is all actually recoverable - lots of testing...

So what should i focus on next ? Suggestions ?

I hope you had a nice weekend.

I spent the vast majority of the past two months in full time filmmaking mode, for my Fedi promo video.

Now that the French (https://news.elenarossini.com/fedivers-video/) and the Italian (https://news.elenarossini.com/fediverso-video/) voice-over narrations are complete, I can finally resume my self-hosting adventures.

On the agenda for later this week: updating the version of my Ghost installation, which is something I am genuinely self-hosting, without the help of YunoHost...

I already did it once a couple of months ago, but now the stakes are higher because I'm getting hundreds of visits every day (since publishing the Fedi promo video).

Second item on my to do list: figuring out how to log onto #NextCloud from my mobile phone (the iOS app keeps spinning when I enter my server name).

I'm just really grateful to be able to do all this... A mere 6 months ago it would have seemed impossible.

This morning I hit a new little milestone: I FINALLY installed #NextCloud on my VPS (thank you #YunoHost).

I'm getting ready to share short clips of my Fedi promo video (that anybody could use / upload on their own accounts - esp. Big Tech ones, if they're so inclined) and I needed a solution to let people download files. NextCloud is perfect for the task - and something I had looked forward to installing for a looooong time.

I'll share more details soon, but so far I'm excited to finally use it.

Things like the @nextcloud #Tasks webapp deleting finished tasks one by one makes me wonder if there are really frontend devs who never heard of the capabilities of databases? Implementing this thing in frontend to delete some hundred tasks takes minutes while it would take milliseconds doing a proper SQL `DELETE` query.

Convertido examen a texto y sustituidos ejercicios de mi examen final en #OnlyOffice sincronizado con el #Nextcloud corporativo.

El lunes en el trabajo iniciaré equipo con #Ubuntu, iré a la carpeta sincronizada e imprimiré el nuevo examen conectado con #SAMBA

Holaaaa no he pasado mucho por aqui estos días, pero estaba haciendo de guiri abstemia en Munich. Lo de #nextcloud fenomenal, y además he conocido a gente de OpenProject, Cryptpad, Xwiki, MariaDB....y si, tengo unas cuantas pegatinas (ya pondre que estoy derrengada)
Ayer tarde me dio tiempo a ver el centro tres horitas y tengo muuuchas fotos, también pondré mañana. Aunque llovió, dio tiempo a ver cosas y también a comprar papeleria local. Ah, y hasta he comido bien (RARO EN ALEMANIA).

Ah great, #Nextcloud Android broke Auto Upload again. In that, it silently removed all configured Auto Upload folders during the latest update.

Guten morgen!! Estoy en Munich en el Nextcloud Summit, con un tanque de café, buena wifi, enchufe, mesa y agua sin gas. Por ahora escuchando al CEO de #Nextcloud. Luego echo un ojo que hay un montón de expositores interesantes del sector #opensource. He visto de pasada el de OpenSource y el de MariaDB, hay varios más. La verdad mola que haya eventos así fuera de lo mainstream. Unas 800 personas, nada mal.

#FreeBSD #Nextcloud upgrade gotcha. It's always the same gotcha for me, mod_phpXY never gets upgraded along with phpXY, nextcloud-phpXY, and nextcloud-appname-phpXY.

Fuck around for ten minutes, just about to resort to a backup, and then I remember, "oh yeah..... fracking mod_php." Every single PHP revision, it gets me.

I forgot to post it here, but I found it really cool how #Nextcloud during their Hub 10 announcement livestream actively pointed out that they spend most of their time on fixing bugs and improving stability.
Like sure. That's probably what a decent amount of companies do, but it's still nice to see them point that out to the general public.
