#Nextcloud by @nextcloud does that, in a slightly complex and clumsy way. But I'm not aware of good alternatives and so far, it works pretty fine for my employer.

Other: Mailing lists. For new release announcements, for user-to-user support, for development discussions. With a mailing list I get the info in my own client software, configured my way, and don't have to log into a different system for each project.

With the right software the same info can be delivered by e-mail, in forums, as blog posts, RSS feeds, even as #ActivityPub messages. No, I don't know any software that does it all.

Okay, heeeeelp, how the fuck am I supposed to upload almost 230k photos from iCloud Photos to my NAS?

• Keeping all metadata and original files (HEIC, HEVC, HEIF, etc)
• Keeping live photos videos

Considering that:

• Without using immich app because it's buggy as fuck and completely shits itself after a few uploads thousand
• Without using the nextcloud app because it removes metadata from videos when autouploading
• Without using iCloud Takeout because not only that separates all metadata from the files with the sole purpose of making your life harder requiring some script to fix which apparently only works on mac, but also that would require me to download God knows how many zips from Apples website totaling almost 3TB

Someone help should I just accept that I'll just lose 230k pictures because no one seems to make a software that works properly???

From own experience, small tip for anybody upgrading #nextcloud and seeing the process stuck in the last step (updating database schema):

It is *really* slow, even for a small / vanilla instance, and does not provide adequate warning to that effect.

Let it run for hours (overnight) before assuming the installation is broken 🤦 and embarking on time-consuming reinstalls...

Managed to more or less finish the Nextcloud setup for the #runbsd project.

Only thing left to fix is the redis config.

I directly hooked up the phone and computer of our youngest and of myself.

So I guess this is mission critical infrastructure now :-)

The webinterface of the NextCloud Office app is pretty feature complete, but has horrible performance. But no worries: just using a locally installed LibreOffice opening locally synchronised documents works pretty great.

@RachelThornSub If I'm reading https://github.com/nextcloud/forms/blob/main/src/utils/RegularExpression.js correctly, #NextCloud suffers from "PHP brain damage", i.e. you have to add slashes around your #regex (and backslash-escape any inner slashes) for no good reason.

For example, let's say we want to validate student IDs and each student ID is an alphanumeric string of 7 characters.

• 1st character: 2
• 2nd character: 1 or 2
• 3rd character: any digit 0-9
• 4th character: one of the following letters in uppercase: KYNSMX
• 5th character: any digit 0-9 or one of the following letters in uppercase: KYNSMX
• 6th character: any digit 0-9
• 7th character: any digit 0-9

Then I believe your regex would have to look like this: /^2[12][0-9][KYNSMX][0-9KYNSMX][0-9][0-9]$/
Or alternatively: /^2[12]\d[KYNSMX][\dKYNSMX]\d{2}$/

The point is, the regex has to be wrapped in slashes and you need to manually anchor it (^ for beginning of string, $ for end of string).

(Disclaimer: I haven't tested any of this, I've just looked at the NextCloud source code.)

Sometimes it feels like I'm the only person in the world using #Nextcloud #Forms, because it's impossible to get responses on forums. For a year, I've been trying to figure out how to validate input via regular expressions (a.k.a. #regex), but no matter what I type in, I get an "invalid expression" error message. Does regex on Forms simply not work, and no one cares? Like the menu item is a just a placeholder for a possible future feature?

Is there a way to set recurring tasks (daily, every Wednesday etc) in #NextCloud tasks?

@neil My Nextcloud use has shrunk down quite a bit to calendars and contacts, and tasks. What do you use for that, if not NC?

(Unfortunately the UI for tasks & deck is ... awful.)

I'm still using the wiki ("Collectives"), but am pretty displeased by the functionality (no notifications on updates, performance).

IMNSHO, #Nextcloud would do better with fewer but better curated apps.

ElementaryOS looks good! Sleek, modern, functional. Not intimidating at all.

Also, I'm always impressed with how easy #Nextcloud makes setting up a new machine. Install the client, enter your account data, and boom, your files are synching in the background.

The very first article will simply cover the basics of what is needed... then part 2 will be the step-by-step installation and connecting a domain + creating a subdomain... and then part 3 will cover installing an app (NextCloud) and setting up a backup system.

I'm hoping to get all this done before Christmas, in time for my one year anniversary of self-hosting with YunoHost (thank you again @ilja for setting all this in motion last year).

As I type this, I'm currently backing up my YunoHost and these days my backup files are about 13GB in size, broken down as follows (in descending order):

• #Pixelfed: 1.4 GB

Wasn't able to get #Baikal #CalDAV to work so moved everything to a now working #NextCloud instance.

Nice! #NextCloud works behind #nginx Proxy Manager when added some extra headers as stated here: https://github.com/NginxProxyManager/nginx-proxy-manager/issues/582#issuecomment-2041376380

Interestingly if you're connected, then remove the headers macOS Calendar continues to function. It's only when adding the account it fails.

Tried the same headers for #Baikal (with different redirects of course) but still no dice there.

Next Cloud seems overkill for what I need, but I guess I'll be migrating then.

Interesting! After updating to #macOS 15.7.2 the #Calendar app wouldn't connect to my #Baikal #CalDAV server anymore. Tried #NextCloud. #Thunderbird and other third party apps worked just fine. Was reluctant to update iOS and iPadOS as I feared those would break as well. But they kept working.

Just to test I installed NextCloud on another server that uses #Apache instead of #NginxProxyManager #NPM and lo and behold: macOS Calendar connects just fine!

But I need NPM to work...

I wonder how #Nextcloud will invest 250 million EUR in 5 years -- where does the money come from? Isn't that EU funding?

I'm currently in progress of migrating the rest of my #Google data into #Nextcloud ahead of mass deleting it on the Google side. No particular reason other than it's long overdue and I don't want to pay for Google One.

Adding a #Nextcloud calendar to the #macOS Calendar app seems just as challenging... Ugh. Also, importing into the Nextcloud calendar doesn't seem to work...

Ugh, updating the latest update for #macOS 15 #Sequoia broke #Baikal #CalDAV. It was always finicky to get it to work but it has worked fine until now.

Maybe I should look into setting up #Nextcloud just for CalDAV... I think it supports CalDAV. But it also adds so much more I have no need for. I think 🙂.

I think my dalliance with #android may be coming to an end. I bought this titan 2 phone backing a kickstarter. It has been very unreliable. Maybe it is android 15. Maybe it is my wacky settings (i try to log out of google and do as little with them as possible). I restrict or remove permissions on a lot of stuff. It could be instability in the maker's mods to android. I don't know. But i deal with crashes. A lot

The fact is that two email programs (Thunderbird and K-9) won't run. They literally crash when opened. ProtonVPN crashes as soon as i tap "sign in". I cant remember the last time i dealt with this on my #iPhone. With this android phone it's a daily thing. I used the built-in gmail app and even it crashes sometimes.

I still don't have all my #nextcloud services integrated. I have installed TWO helper apps already (DAVx and IMAP notes) to get contacts, calendars, and notes. I STILL don't have reminder lists working. All these things were effortless on IOS. On android it's not supported out of the boxand i have to search for a workaround.

In other good news, using our community-hosted NextCloud service for push notifications is working now on both my Matrix accounts 🥳

Had to install NextPush to get it working with ElementX, but that was pretty quick and easy. I just installed it, logged in to NC and approved the app, and restarted ElementX. Voila! No more error messages.

He mirado también #webdav y otros medios para acceder desde Wordpress hacia Nextcloud pero nada, que tampoco hay nada. Algunos usuarios han tenido el mismo problema que yo en 2016 así que no sé si siguen vivos y si lo han resuelto porque nadie les contestó.

A ver cómo me las apaño. Algo rudimentario seguro.

La aplicación se llama repod (https://git.crystalyx.net/Xefir/repod), que necesita también la aplicación gpodersync (https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/gpoddersync) para funcionar y que mejora mucho todo el sistema porque lo mantiene sincronizado con AntennaPod (por ejemplo) y así sigues episodios escuchados en un sitio u otro, por ejemplo.

Y todo esto lo cuento porque he visto el anuncio del podcast "Tetas libres" de la Revista Asamblea Digital. Mirando la página veo que el complemento para Firefox Copy RSS Button (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/copy-rss-button/) me muestra todos los feeds de la misma, y es muy fácil copiarlos para subscribirse.
