Latest quarterly FreeBSD package upgrade broke my Nextcloud 😮💨
Post mortem: The new version of php85-pdo_pgsql is now compiled against PostgreSQL 18, not 17. So pkg upgrade removed postgresql17-server, leaving Nextcloud dysfunctional without a database.
Solution:
- Reinstalled postgresql17-server
- Dumped the db with pg_dump
- Installed postgresql18-server & php85-pdo_pgsql
- Copied over pg_hba.conf & postgresql.conf
- Created empty db/user in PG18
- Imported the db dump
- Ran occ maintenance:data-fingerprint
Restarted php-fpm & nginx
All fine again. But that was unpleasant 🙂

I have tried a number of nextcloud free accounts and they all sucked. This one does not suck. You get 1gb for free. You can find out whether their office, photos, news reader, and other apps will suit you as a replacement for Google.
If you like it, pay $20 a year for 20gb to keep them afloat.
Just upgraded the @nextcloud client from version 4.0.8 to 33.0.0? Pretty sure 4.0.8 was only installed six days ago, did I miss 29 releases in less than a week?
Bueno pues puedo confirmar que #homeassistant con la rpi5 de 8Gb de RAM va volando. Y eso que sobre la misma rpi hay #homeassistant , #NextCloud , #plex y varias cosas más consumiendo de media un 6% del procesador y un 45% de la RAM.

Hey fedi, I'm looking for a replacement for nextcloud. The only nextcloud functionality I use is its file syncing capability, and I was wondering if there's a replacement that does that without being as chonky as nextcloud is.
My requirements:
- Easy to deploy on kubernetes (which sadly eliminates syncthing)
- Has sync clients for iOS, and Linux
- Self hosted

Welp, I just uploaded about a shy dozen video clips totalling about 10 gigs to my NextCloud in one go - something our ostensibly professional-grade Microsoft OneDrive at work is utterly incapable of; it can handle two, maybe three videos at a time, if they're really short.
- but please tell me again what great products Microsoft charges those explosively increasing license fees for...

Depends on use case. In my company, we have:
1. File sharing internally, within teams
2. File sharing to external people, mainly customers
3. Collaborative document editing
4. Kanban deck
#Nextcloud by @nextcloud does that, in a slightly complex and clumsy way. But I'm not aware of good alternatives and so far, it works pretty fine for my employer.
Okay, heeeeelp, how the fuck am I supposed to upload almost 230k photos from iCloud Photos to my NAS?
- Keeping all metadata and original files (HEIC, HEVC, HEIF, etc)
- Keeping live photos videos
Considering that:
- Without using immich app because it's buggy as fuck and completely shits itself after a few uploads thousand
- Without using the nextcloud app because it removes metadata from videos when autouploading
- Without using iCloud Takeout because not only that separates all metadata from the files with the sole purpose of making your life harder requiring some script to fix which apparently only works on mac, but also that would require me to download God knows how many zips from Apples website totaling almost 3TB
Someone help should I just accept that I'll just lose 230k pictures because no one seems to make a software that works properly???

From own experience, small tip for anybody upgrading #nextcloud and seeing the process stuck in the last step (updating database schema):
It is *really* slow, even for a small / vanilla instance, and does not provide adequate warning to that effect.
Let it run for hours (overnight) before assuming the installation is broken 🤦 and embarking on time-consuming reinstalls...
I've made a collection of the podman quadlets I use in my minimal setup at home: Immich, Nextcloud and Vaultwarden.
All containers have proper health checks.

@RachelThornSub If I'm reading https://github.com/nextcloud/forms/blob/main/src/utils/RegularExpression.js correctly, #NextCloud suffers from "PHP brain damage", i.e. you have to add slashes around your #regex (and backslash-escape any inner slashes) for no good reason.
For example, let's say we want to validate student IDs and each student ID is an alphanumeric string of 7 characters.
- 1st character: 2
- 2nd character: 1 or 2
- 3rd character: any digit 0-9
- 4th character: one of the following letters in uppercase: KYNSMX
- 5th character: any digit 0-9 or one of the following letters in uppercase: KYNSMX
- 6th character: any digit 0-9
- 7th character: any digit 0-9
Then I believe your regex would have to look like this: /^2[12][0-9][KYNSMX][0-9KYNSMX][0-9][0-9]$/
Or alternatively: /^2[12]\d[KYNSMX][\dKYNSMX]\d{2}$/
The point is, the regex has to be wrapped in slashes and you need to manually anchor it (^ for beginning of string, $ for end of string).
(Disclaimer: I haven't tested any of this, I've just looked at the NextCloud source code.)

I'm now on high alert expecting any minute a reply by a sysadmin with a stern lecture about something I wrote 😅

How is the object/face recognition? I try searching for a specific person in Nextcloud photos, but it's a bit hot or miss.
It's a good time to consider your digital sovereignty. If you aren't hosting your own data on #Nextcloud, etc., it's a very good time to think about doing that.
@neil My Nextcloud use has shrunk down quite a bit to calendars and contacts, and tasks. What do you use for that, if not NC?
(Unfortunately the UI for tasks & deck is ... awful.)
I'm still using the wiki ("Collectives"), but am pretty displeased by the functionality (no notifications on updates, performance).
IMNSHO, #Nextcloud would do better with fewer but better curated apps.
ElementaryOS looks good! Sleek, modern, functional. Not intimidating at all.
Also, I'm always impressed with how easy #Nextcloud makes setting up a new machine. Install the client, enter your account data, and boom, your files are synching in the background.

Tengo la grabación de la última actuación, es como giga y medio, y me gustaría subirla al área de socios para que tengan acceso a ella bajo las reglas de Nextcloud y. al mismo tiempo, publicarla en el blog de manera que se pueda ver con el visor de Wordpress. Todo eso sin que tenga que duplicar el espacio ocupado.
Pues no, el único complemento que he visto es uno de pago con mucha fanfarria en la página web que promete demasiadas cosas pero que siendo de pago como que no. Y no es por el dinero, es por la dependencia que le cargo a la asociación sin necesidad alguna.
He mirado también #webdav y otros medios para acceder desde Wordpress hacia Nextcloud pero nada, que tampoco hay nada. Algunos usuarios han tenido el mismo problema que yo en 2016 así que no sé si siguen vivos y si lo han resuelto porque nadie les contestó.
A ver cómo me las apaño. Algo rudimentario seguro.
La aplicación se llama repod (https://git.crystalyx.net/Xefir/repod), que necesita también la aplicación gpodersync (https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/gpoddersync) para funcionar y que mejora mucho todo el sistema porque lo mantiene sincronizado con AntennaPod (por ejemplo) y así sigues episodios escuchados en un sitio u otro, por ejemplo.
Y todo esto lo cuento porque he visto el anuncio del podcast "Tetas libres" de la Revista Asamblea Digital. Mirando la página veo que el complemento para Firefox Copy RSS Button (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/copy-rss-button/) me muestra todos los feeds de la misma, y es muy fácil copiarlos para subscribirse.
