Updated Nextcloud AIO to the latest version and it stopped working .. Spent the last 5 hours trying to resolve the internal error with no luck.

Now restoring a two month old backup .. I'm tired of this shit.

Manual recording of my health data such as blood pressure, blood sugar, sleep, steps and more in a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet, can be easily converted into a PDF for my doctors to evaluate

Am I missing anything? Absolutely not! This setup works just as smoothly and conveniently as previous ecosystem solutions from Apple, Google or Samsung. Only with significantly more privacy, without tracking and surveillance by US Big Tech

It appears to be like a "kiss of death" for @nextcloud to promote or advertise a specific app. Before I learned this, I was excited when the "Social" app was advertised because that's a good function to add to a private community server like Nextcloud, but now it's dead and abandoned.

Now that "Maps" has been advertised, we see it, too, has fallen behind in development and has no stable version for the current version of #Nextcloud.

Nextcloud developers kill off apps with platform instability.

ok, so my work to get closer to being more 'decentralised' as far as tech goes, gets closer to the end.

* self hosting my family mail including calendaring and contacts
* self hosting files and pictures
* self hosting DNS
* self hosting VPN.

All using opersource of course.

Biggest challenge was setting up the local and offsite backups and making sure that it is all actually recoverable - lots of testing...

So what should i focus on next ? Suggestions ?

There is a rate limit for #Nextcloud #calendar subscriptions set to 30. The exception tells that - client messages do not.

Dear @nextcloud @floccus LazyWeb,

I use several #Firefox profiles at the same time – one for each #KDE #Plasma Activity and am #Floccus + #Nextcloud Bookmarks as a replacement for Firefox Sync.

So I need to set up two Floccus profiles for each FF profile.

I started to export/import those, but noticed that it does not ask me for authentication anymore.

Does importing a profile re-use that NC app pass too?

If so, does that bring any unwanted consequences with it (e.g. performance, security)?

Is it possible that by using the same #Nextcloud app password, all the #Floccus profiles seem seem to Nextcloud (Bookmarks) as the same device and that causes it to somehow run in circles or rather wait for one another a bit too much?

It seems to me it is syncing much slower than it should – it feels like an hour now and two profiles keep syncing about 2k bookmarks (and tabs combined).

Things like the @nextcloud #Tasks webapp deleting finished tasks one by one makes me wonder if there are really frontend devs who never heard of the capabilities of databases? Implementing this thing in frontend to delete some hundred tasks takes minutes while it would take milliseconds doing a proper SQL `DELETE` query.

With #Mozilla shutting down Pocket, and Firefox Sync server being not super easy to self-host, I decided to try if I can (ab)use #Nextcloud Bookmarks into a Firefox Sync replacement.

So far, it's looking pretty good.

@fdroidorg In fairness, #Nextcloud has given you some good publicity lately. I'm not sure how they could reasonably do it on their end so that it doesn't break integrations with other installed apps. I've used Amazon and Samsung app stores for years, so I'm not new to the 3rd party app store game. It would be great if F-Droid had a similarly low barrier to entry for new users if existing apps since it seems more developer friendly than other stores.

I have set a size limit for my account on my self-hosted #Nextcloud instance. I would like to update the size limit, but I am not able to find the setting (my account is also an admin account).

When I click on top right (after logging in to my admin account), and click on "Accounts", I get the fields as in the following screenshot.

Una pregunta. Aviam si algú s'hi ha trobat. A #Nextcloud hi tinc alguns projectes amb markdown que tenen també un repositori de Git. El Nextcloud està sincronitzat en dos ordinadors i m'agradaria fer commits també des dels dos, del mateix projecte i des de la mateixa carpeta. Però no sé com fer-ho. He de triar un dels ordinadors per fer els commits. No puc tenir el repositori als dos. Per què?

What worked well for me to get multiple years of photos from my iPhone was connect a cable to a computer and copy them over usb (I used rsync).

I found that setting the Nextcloud app to ‘delete after syncing’ in combination with the ‘sync over WiFi only’ option works good for me: it keeps my phone “clean” and it syncs all photos.

Oh and I suspect that the reason the “sync stops after a few 1000 photos” behavior of the nextcloud app cannot be blamed on nextcloud but is instead to be blamed on Apple and the restrictions on what (third party) apps are allowed to do.

Giving up on #Nextcloud photo sync. After 2 days of trying various methods to backup my complete camera roll with the nextcloud app on my iPhone, I conclude that there is no way to make it work. It always stops somewhere midway, leaving empty directories behind, seemingly unable to continue. And yes, this was with the app in the foreground, screen lock disabled and the phone connected to the charger.

I was hoping that Joplin worked with plain markdown files, and they could all sync nicely so I could use #Joplin and #NextCloud web app interchangeably, but unfortunately that's not how Joplin works, unless I am doing it very wrong - Joplin creates its own structures unfortunately!

In full transparency, my #hetzner hosted #nextcloud was not entirely smooth yesterday. I had an email from @hetzner in the morning that there would be a 2 hour outage in the middle of the working day, and after that I also had a file "locked" which meant we couldnt modify or delete it. Next I run #syncthing on my laptop, and on my #homelab #intelN100 #n100 mini pc / server that runs in the cupboard and is very #lowpower I run #proxmox and this also has a #samba share which allows any other network devices to see the media.

With syncthing running, I always have two copies of the media, but for backup I was using #rclone to send an encrypted copy to #googledrive - which I am in the process of switching over to #nextcloud running on #hetzner

Ok. Remotely cleaning a huge (>2 TB, many many files and subdirs) #Nextcloud-hosted folder (not the whole user) is *painful*. Without access to the host it runs on I am limited to either the webinterface - which breaks - or using #webdav with a tool like #rclone.

#rclone purge breaks (timeout), so rclone delete it is. Which is *slow*, really slow. Probably because the remote moves a deleted file into the (for this case) useless trashbin which can't be turned off.

At least one can use #xargs to run multiple rclones in parallel - first get a list of entries of the to-be-deleted-dir (rclone lsf), format them the way rclone expects (basically put name of remote in front) and use something like `xargs -n 1 -P0 rclone delete -v --rmdirs` on it.

Still, its running since yesterday later afternoon and we are down to 1.4Tb left, of 2Tb. Even in parallel, the webdav shit manages to delete 2 to 4 files a second only.

@fancypants @cjwr1ght just be aware that #owncloud is the original (but now laggard & corporate) fork of #NextCloud (the lead dev forked his own code when the company he'd started 'got away from him' & started proprietrising things in ways he didn't agree with), and it's just a shadow of NC. It's like LibreOffice is to OpenOffice (after the community forked it). The corporatised fork withers and fades into obscurity because without the community, they're nothing special.

Hey networking/LXC specialists.

I have NextCloudPi running as an LXC container.

To access it, I set up routing on my Mikrotik router (screenshot).

The problem is that accessing NCP this way is very slow, I need to wait 5-10 seconds for the page to load.

I have Tailscale installed in the container, and accessing NCP using the Tailscale host name is nearly instantaneous.

Estoy algo indeciso. Por una parte, estoy acostumbrado a tener mis archivos accesibles desde cualquier lugar haciendo uso de una nube. Dropbox, Nextcloud, OneDrive, la que sea. En este momento de mi vida, es Nextcloud o nada. Pero ya que pago, me gustaría tener bastante espacio y los precios son bastante elevados.
En la web de Nextcloud aparecen Tab.digital, The Good Cloud, y luego yo conozco Murena, que es algo más barato. Tab.digital trae bastantes aplicaciones instaladas por defecto.
¿Alguna experiencia con un Nextcloud externo? El autoalojamiento no es una opción (no intentes convencerme de lo contrario, porfa).
La otra opción sería tirar de Syncthing y dejarme de nubes, pero creo que para mi uso no me es bastante. Me gusta poder acceder a un archivo que haya guardado recientemente y no me gustaría tenerlos todos en todos los dispositivos. Nunca lo he usado, así que también agradeceré cualquier experiencia al respecto.

En inderdaad, wij verkopen "hout" (hosting), maar we verkopen ook complete oplossingen "meubels".

We leveren bijvoorbeeld #nextcloud met nextcloud #office en #e-mail (volledig verzorgd) en #peertube als service en #mastodon als service en wat dacht je van #jitsi en #bigbluebutton ook als service.

Het is zelfs zo dat Bert daar zelf gebruik van maakt, de mastodon.nl server is qua eigennaarschap van de stichting ActivityPub, maar draait met en door ProcoliX.

As I think more about my #Nextcloud issues, I don't think I really need something this complex and powerful. I just want a self-hosted Calendar/Contacts service and shared tasks.

File sharing/backup is the other thing I was considering using it for.

So it might be better to just use separate services for each. I might spin up some additional containers to see if they work better. Baikal and OwnCloud seem to be some popular alternatives.

Can anyone walk me through setting up email through @nextcloud ?
I have my own domains (1 for work, 1 for personal).

As in, walk me through it in an "imagine you're explaining to a 3 year old" way.

I used to be able to figure this stuff out but autistic burnout and covid brain fog have destroyed my ability to thing entirely.

pero leyendo esto no me queda claro que tengo que modificar, si el conf del nginx, o algun conf dentro del contenedor de nextcloud. que por cierto, usa apache y no nginx, al menos el que estoy corriendo yo?
